CUMT Library

The predecessor of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) Library was the Jiaozuo School of Railroad and Mines Library founded in 1909. In 1951, China Institute of Mining and Technology Library was established. For the nationwide department adjustment in 1952, the mining department of Tsinghua University, Beiyang University and Tangshan Jiaotong University were adjusted to China Institute of Mining and Technology. At the same time, the mining engineering literatures of these three schools were also incorporated into the Library of China Institute of Mining and Technology and in April 1988 library renamed as China University of Mining and Technology Library.  

After nearly a hundred years of development, the library has formed a document information resource guarantee system with mining characteristic, focusing on science and technology, and coordinately developing with culture, management, economics and law. By the end of 2018, the library had a total of 2.34 million paper collections, 3.95 million e-books, 83 Chinese databases, 126 foreign language databases, and 1,338 Chinese and foreign paper journals. Self-built “Mining Engineering Digital Library”, “Mining Engineering Database”, “Low Carbon New Energy Database”, “China University of Mining and Technology Academic Video Platform” and “China University of Mining and Technology Institutional Knowledge Base” and other special databases. 

CUMT Library has two parts, the Nanhu Campus Library and the Wenchang Campus Library. The Nanhu Library is the main building. The total area of it is about 60000 square meters with more than 5800 reading seats. The library self-service load system has been applied in the library, and the implementation of the modern service management mode of Tibet, Borrowing, Reading, and Consultation is integrated. In addition, library in the legal holidays are not close, which provides favorable conditions for the readers to borrow and read books conveniently, quickly, freely and comfortably.

CUMT Library is a science and technology search station of the Ministry of Education and a scientific and technological search agency of the Coal Information Institute, one of the CALIS member libraries and the JALIS North Jiangsu Document Center. In recent years, relying on its own collection advantages, the library has attached great importance to the co-construction, mutual understanding, and sharing of document information, and has carried out in-depth research and exploration on digital library construction, resource integration and sharing, document transmission, and Information literacy education for college students. 

In the new stage of development, CUMT Library will continue to strengthen the people-oriented service concept, strengthen the construction of dual-class disciplines, create a high-level document information resource platform, and innovate service models to build a new generation library that match the world-class mining universities. The library will become a document information support center for school scientific research and discipline construction, and will make unremitting efforts to become a support center for the local economy, especially the economic and scientific literature information of the coal industry.
